LARC accepting applications for Travel Fellowships & Short Stays
IBRO’s Latin America Regional Committee (LARC) will evaluate possible funding to attend courses/workshops and/or present results at meetings within the region (up to 1200 euros) and for doing short research/training lab visits within the region (up to 1200 euros) taking place between January 1 & June 30, 2011. Apply online by September 15, 2010.

IBRO’s Latin America Regional Committee (LARC) will evaluate possible funding for basic Neuroscience schools (up to 15,000 euros) and for basic Neuroscience courses, workshops or symposia (up to 3,500 euros) to take place between January 1 and June 30, 2011. Apply online by September 15, 2010.

SfN-IBRO Travel Grant winners announced
Twenty-nine young investigators will receive travel grants to present their poster at the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) Annual Meeting in San Diego, USA, and two will receive funding from the IBRO-NIDA Travel Grants Programme.

Thirty travel awards granted in IBRO's competitive Int'l Travel Grants competition
Out of more than 150 applicants, the IBRO Fellowships & Travel Grants Committee has selected the top 30 young researchers to receive travel awards for attending neuroscience meetings and conferences taking place between July and December 2010.

WERC sponsored 4th Latin-American Postgraduate and Doctorate programmes on neuroscience

Since 1995, more than 300 young investigators, the majority from Latin American countries, have been introduced to basic aspects of modern neuroscience through this programme in Seville, Spain.

The Colegio Colombiano de Neurosciencias (COLNE) recently met for the VII National Meeting/VIII International Symposium of Neuroscience. Among the topics discussed was early onset Alzheimer's disease in one Colombian family. The meeting was partially funded by IBRO LARC.

Neuroscience Societies of France and Argentina Organize Joint Symposium
The Argentine and French societies will jointly organize the first international Franco-Argentine Neuroscience Symposium with the theme, “Synapse and synaptic plasticity, both intrinsic and functional”. The binational symposium will include a tribute to Professor Hersch Gerschenfeld who greatly contributed to the development of neuroscience in both countries, particularly in the field of the synaptic neurobiology.

This lecture and laboratory course will expose Latin-American students/faculty to recent advances and modern techniques in neurosciences, using invertebrates as model systems. The course will primarily focus on Drosophila melanogaster and Caenorhabditis elegans, and the use of these animal models both in basic neuroscience and biomedical research.
